Wind Park Hartelkanaal

Technical challenge

From 2009 to 2015, Wind Park Hartelkanaal was redeveloped and constructed on behalf of Investment Engineering Projects. The wind park consists of eight wind turbines, which together generate 24 MW. Particular challenge: the limited location.

Technically challenging project

The eight wind turbines of Wind Park Hartelkanaal are located between the N15 and the Hartel Canal in Rotterdam. The space here is limited. This made the construction a significant technical challenge!

Together, the wind turbines generate an average of 68 GWh of green electricity per year. This can supply 18,000 households with green power.

Hartelkanaal is Greenchoice’s first wind park. The energy supplier held a competition to name the wind turbines. They became: Rüzgar, Ventus, Viento, Vind, Tuuli, Vjetar, Umoya and Vindur. These are the words for ‘wind’ in Turkish, Latin, Spanish, Norwegian, Finnish, Croatian, Zulu and Icelandic. Want to know more about this project? See also the project website.

I can say with certainty that Wind Park Hartelkanaal is technically the most complex project I have ever worked on. Building eight wind turbines on a space the size of a ‘postage stamp’ was no easy task. Yet we succeeded, and I’m proud of that!
