Burgerwindpark A2 Lage Rooijen has reached ‘financial close.’ This is a significant milestone for the project because it means we can start construction and procurement of materials. At financial close, the bank provides the funds necessary for the project’s realization. A portion of the total investment has been contributed as equity by the shareholders, Green Trust Projects and Coöperatie Bommelerwaar.

Green Trust Projects and Coöperatie Bommelerwaar each own 50% of the project. The cooperative raised funds from the community between May and mid-June to secure their equity contribution.

The communication team of Green Trust led the fundraising campaign for the cooperative in collaboration with Coöperatie Bommelerwaar. Green Trust is also involved in the construction of the Burgerwindpark, the legal aspects, calculating the business case, and the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The wind park is now in the construction phase, which is led by Green Trusters Stan Reinders and Joost Cornelli.

Energy for 10,000 households
Burgerwindpark A2 Lage Rooijen will meet the energy needs of more than 10,000 households. Construction preparations will begin in mid-August, with the expectation that the wind park will be operational by the end of 2025. Local residents will be kept informed of the progress through the sounding board group and house-to-house letters.

A successful campaign
To finance the construction of the wind park, Coöperatie Bommelerwaar needed a total of 3.5 million euros. Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of more than 200 residents and entrepreneurs from the region, an amount of over 1.1 million euros was raised. The remaining amount will be supplemented by Deltawind, a Dutch energy cooperative based in Goeree-Overflakkee. This allows Coöperatie Bommelerwaar to acquire sufficient additional capital, enabling them to repay this sister cooperative shareholder at a later date, likely after the wind park becomes operational. For current bondholders, the interest and investment conditions remain unchanged.

Wind Fund
Apart from the investment opportunity, once the wind park is operational, €0.75 per generated megawatt-hour (MWh) will be allocated to the Omgevingsfonds Maasdriel, which supports local projects.
